The FTC Care Labeling Rule requires covered manufacturers and importers to provide care instructions and to have a reasonable basis for them. A copied care symbol set is not enough when materials and construction differ.
Base instructions on the finished garment
A bra may combine lace, foam, wire, elastic, hooks, decorative trims and printed labels. Care review should consider the complete product, not only the main fabric.
Identify harmful procedures
Where a commonly assumed cleaning procedure could harm the product, appropriate warnings may be needed. The responsible business should maintain evidence supporting the selected instructions.
Keep symbols and words consistent
Check that symbols, written instructions, translations and packaging information do not contradict one another. Confirm the correct artwork version for every affected style.
Recheck after material changes
A substitution in lace, foam, elastic, hardware or print can affect care performance. Update evidence and artwork approval when relevant construction changes.
Care labels should reflect substantiated cleaning instructions for the complete lingerie product.
